전공 분야는 인도고전학과 인도철학이며, 주요 관심 분야는 인도 고전논리학과 인식론, 인도 사상사와 불교 사상사, 인도문헌학, 인도 근현대 문화와 사회변동이다. 단행본 저술로는 Pañcāvayava: Die fünfgliedrige Argumentationsform in den frühen Debattentraditionen Indiens (Steiner Verlag, 2007); Die Debatte im alten Indien (Dr. Inge Wezler, 2003); 빠니니 읽기 (한길사, 2011); Saṃskṛtavākyopakriyā 인도 고전어 쌍쓰끄리땀 첫마당 1 (도서출판 라싸, 2019)가 있다. 인도 고전 관련 논문으로는 The Indian Tradition of nirukta (Hermeneutic Etymology) and the Case of 'jāti' Explained in the Nyāyabhāṣya (Horizons: Seoul Journal of Humanities 4.1, 2013); What does -sama mean? On the uniform ending of the names of the jati-s in the Nyāyasūtra (Journal of Indian Philosophy 37.1, 2009); Die Carakasaṃhitā in der Geschichte der indischen Philosophie I. Nyāya und Carakasaṃhitā (Wiener Zeitschrift für die Kunde Südasiens 50, 2006); 「‘주사위 노름’으로 오해되는 고대 인도의 내기에 대한 해명: 베다시기 견과윷(akṣa) 경기와 ?릭베다?(Ṛgveda)의 “견과윷 노래”(Akṣa-sūkta)를 중심으로」 (?인문논총? 78.2, 2021) 등이 있다. 근현대 인도 관련 논문으로는 「쌍쓰끄리땀과 암벧까르(Ambedkar)의 소환 그리고 고대사 재구성과 인도 현대 정치의 규정요소로서의 언어」 (?아시아리뷰? 10.2, 2020); 「인도 스마트시티미션을 둘러싼 사회·경제적 맥락의 고찰: 경제와 정치의 악순환 구조를 매개하는 재정 문제를 통해 본 기반시설 조성 전략」 (?아시아리뷰? 11.3, 2021) 등이 있다. 


Sung Yong KANG is educated and specialized in Indian Classics and ancient Indian philosophical traditions. His research field covers mainly Indian philosophy and Indian philology. His monographs reflecting his major interests include Pañcāvayava: Die fünfgliedrige Argumentationsform in den frühen Debattentraditionen Indiens (Steiner Verlag, 2007); Die Debatte im alten Indien (Dr. Inge Wezler, 2003); Reading Pāṇini (Hangilsa, 2011)[in Korean]; Saṃskṛtavākyopakriyā Introduction to Sanskrit 1 (Rasa Books, 2019)[in Korean]. Numerous academic articles dealing with Indian classics can be counted including “The Indian Tradition of nirukta (Hermeneutic Etymology) and the Case of 'jāti' Explained in the Nyāyabhāṣya” (Horizons: Seoul Journal of Humanities 4.1, 2013); “What does -sama mean? On the uniform ending of the names of the jati-s in the Nyāyasūtra” (Journal of Indian Philosophy 37.1, 2009); “Die Carakasaṃhitā in der Geschichte der indischen Philosophie I. Nyāya und Carakasaṃhitā” (Wiener Zeitschrift für die Kunde Südasiens 50, 2006); “Understanding the Dice Game in Ancient India: ‘Akṣa-dyūta’ in the Vedic Period and “The Gambler’s Song” (Akṣa-sūkta) in the Ṛgveda” (Journal of Humanities 78.2, 2021)[in Korean].
