인문학연구원 About SNUIH

서울대학교 인문학연구원은 1979년 9월 인문대학 부설 인문과학연구소로 설립되어 2001년 8월 인문학연구원으로 승격되었습니다. 2007년 11월부터 2017년 8월까지는 ‘HK 문명연구사업단’을 구성해 인문한국지원사업에 참여함으로써 서울대학교에 초학제·초문명적 인문학 연구 허브를 구축하고 연구 전담 인문학 전임교수직을 창출하는 성과를 거두었습니다.

인문학연구원은 학제, 문화, 언어의 경계를 가로질러 인문학의 새로운 방향을 제시하고, 한국과 세계의 인문학적 협업을 촉진하는 것을 목표로 합니다. 지식 확산을 통해 인문학과 일반 대중의 간극을 좁히는 것 또한 인문학연구원의 중요한 목표입니다. 현재 인문학연구원에는 7명의 HK교수와 40명 이상의 연구원, 다수의 객원연구원이 소속되어 있고, 산하에 18개 연구소가 활동 중입니다.

The Institute of Humanities at Seoul National University was founded as the Center for Humanities affiliated with the College of Humanities in September 1979 and promoted to an institute in August 2001. With the HK Civilization Research Project Team, the Institute had participated in the Humanities Korea Program from November 2007 to August 2017, constructing a transdisciplinary, trans-civilizational humanities research hub and creating tenure-track research positions in the humanities at SNU.

The mission of the Institute is to provide new directions for the humanities across disciplinary, cultural, and linguistic boundaries and to facilitate the collaboration between Korean and global humanities. The Institute is also dedicated to making the humanities more accessible to the general public by the diffusion of knowledge. Currently, it is home for seven HK research professors, more-than-forty research fellows, and many more visiting scholars. It also serves as an umbrella organization for eighteen research centers.
