전공 분야는 중국어 음운학, 응용 중국어학이다. 주요 연구 관심사는 동아시아 언어 접촉 현상에 관한 것이며, 특히 음운 자질의 특징과 변천에 대해 심도 있는 연구를 진행하고 있다. 최근에는 데이터베이스 수집과 구축, 그리고 데이터 마이닝을 통한 언어 연구 방법과 연구 영역 확장에 힘을 기울이고 있다. 최근 저서로는 『디지털로 구축한 한담관화와 현대어 번역(역락, 2025/공저)』, 『디지털로 되살린 근대 중국어의 세계: 조선 시대 중국어 유해류 역학서의 현대어 번역과 시맨틱 데이터 구축(역락, 2023/공저)』 등이 있으며, 주요 논문으로는 「동남아시아권 언어의 漢字 차용어 통합 DB 구축과 漢語 성조 수용 양상 연구」(『중국어문학지』, 제86집, 2024), 「중국어 데이터베이스 구축현황 분석과 프로그래밍 설계를 통한 데이터베이스 응용과 언어연구」(『동아인문학』 , 제60집, 2022), 「汉泰 언어 접촉과 성조 수용 연구 -태국 북부 방언을 중심으로」(『인문사회과학연구』, 제21집, 2020) 등이 있다.

Ji Eom specializes in Chinese Phonology and Applied Linguistics. Her research focuses on the phenomenon of language contact in East Asia, especially on the characteristics and changes of phonological features. Recently, she has also been focusing on expanding linguistic research methods and research areas through database construction and data mining.
