전공 분야는 한국 종교이며, 인지종교학과 응용종교학도 공부하고 있다. 주요 연구 관심사는 종교문화를 결정하는 자연적 조건과 역사문화적 조건을 분리해서 이해하는 데 있다. 저서(공저)로는 『신과 인간이 만나는 곳, 산』(2020), 『한국의 종교학: 종교, 종교들, 종교문화』(2019), 『밀양을 듣다: 밀양 탈송전탑 탈핵 운동의 담론과 현장』(2019) 등이 있으며, 최근 논문으로는 「종교와 사회성의 진화에 관한 최근 연구의 주요 쟁점과 종교학 분야에의 시사점」(『종교연구』, 81권 3호, 2021), 「사회성의 진화와 종교논의로 본 근미래의 종교문화: i세대/90년대생 담론과 새로운 종교문화 트렌드를 중심으로」(『종교문화연구』, 33호, 2019), 「인물신 신격화 논의 재고: 초자연적 행위자와 망자, ‘집단 기억’과 상징화를 중심으로」(『민속학연구』, 44호, 2019), 「한국 기독교 민속신앙론은 어떻게 가능한가?: 인지종교학의 관점이 말해주는 것」(『종교문화비평』, 33호, 2018) 등이 있다.
Hyoung-June Shim specialized in Korean Religions, and he has been also studying Cognitive Science of Religion and Applied Religious Studies. His research focuses on understanding the natural conditions and historical-cultural conditions separately that determine religious culture.
